Prof. MOHAMED DERICHE

Prof. Mohamed Deriche holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Polytechnic School, Algeria, and pursued his MSc & Ph.D. degrees in signal processing at the University of Minnesota, completing them in 1990 and 1994, respectively. Beginning his career at Queensland University of Technology in Australia, he later joined King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia, where he headed the signal processing group. In 2021, he joined  Ajman University (UAE), co-leading the AIRC research center and the new MSc in AI program.

In to more than 300 published papers, Prof. Deriche  has delivered numerous keynote talks and chaired several international conferences including GlobalSIP-MPSP, IEEE Gulf (GCC), IPTA, SSD, and TENCON.

Prof. Deriche’s impact extends beyond research papers; he has supervised  over 50 MSc. and PhD students. His contributions to the field have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and the Shauman Best Researcher Award. Additionally, he has received Excellence in Research and Excellence in Teaching Awards at Queensland University of Technology, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and Ajman University.

His research interests span signal and image processing techniques, with a focus on the applications of AI and ML across various domains, including biomedical image processing, multimedia, speech, image and video, and quality of experience.
